This section includes a range of educaitonal resources for clinical ethics committee. These resources can be downloaded and used as teaching materials for committee education where appropriate. A practical guide for clinical ethics support (2004)
This guide, published in 2004, provides practical advice for developing clinical ethics committees. Sections include a description of the development of clinical ethics suppport in the UK; issues to consider in developing a committee (with examples of experience of existing clinical ethics committees);an intrdouction to ethical framewroks for decision-making; legal amd professional guidelines; and links to patient organisations.
CEC resource packs
These resource packs provide a range of material that can be used by CECs in self directed training. The packs include some recommended reading, a case scenario and a summary of the ethical and legal issues relevant to the particular topic. The packs were developed in 2005 as part of a project supported by funding from the Department of Health.

Understanding the Mental Capacity Act
This resource includes a number of linked materials focussing on key areas of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 that are relevant to CECs. There are sections with step by step guides to assessing vcapacity and best interests, and considering advance directives; informaiton about lastingpower of attorney and the role of Independant Mental Capacity Advocates. There is a lso a section exploring the ethical principles underpinning the Act and a synopsis of its relationship to the Mental Health Act. Each section can be read on line or downloaded as a pdf document.
