Professor Alan Watson is the immediate past-chair of the Board of Trustees. He is a Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist and Director of the Children and Young People's Kidney Unit at Nottingham City Hospital, having previously worked in Edinburgh, Durban, Manchester and Toronto. He was a founder member of the Ethics in Clinical Practice Committee at the Nottingham City Hospital, which was established in 1994. The Committee has continued to flourish and in 1999 was expanded to represent both the City and University Hospitals in Nottingham as well as more recently recruiting from primary care trusts (PCTs). Professor  Watson has been involved in the organisation of local and national symposia on ethics in clinical practice and through the Steering Committee hopes to promote the development of clinical ethics committees throughout the region and nationally. In his own clinical field, He is particularly interested in the ethics of withholding and withdrawing treatment in children.
