Dr Wulf Stratling
Dr. M. “Wulf” M. Stratling, MD, PhD, is a Consultant Anaesthetist based at the University Hospital of Wales and Llandough Hospital in Cardiff. He is a member of the Clinical Ethics Committee of the Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust.
Being of multi-national descend, Wulf trained in the UK and in Germany and is a Reader in Anaesthetics and in History, Theory and Ethics in Medicine at Luebeck University, Germany. There he also chaired a very active interdisciplinary Research and Consultation Department on Clinical Ethics and Law (2001 – 2007). He is a co-founder of the equivalent of the UK-Clinical Ethics Network (UKCEN) in Germany (http://www.ethikberatung.uni-goettingen.de). Clinically his special interests lie in acute emergency management and trauma / orthopaedics, post-operative pain treatment, intensive care and all aspects of peri-operative risk-management. Special interests in research and teaching lie on the fields of Ethics and Law in Intensive Care / Emergency Medicine / Palliative Care (esp. End of Life decision making, advance directives, proxy decision making) and in the History of Anaesthesia and Medical Technology.
